If you’ve caught Blackalicious on tour over the last fifteen years or so, you will have witnessed first hand the prodigious talent of Portland based rapper and singer Vursatyl. As well as playing a major role in the Blackalicious stage show, Vursatyl is set to feature on their eagerly awaited fourth album ‘Imani’ (released summer 2015). Standing toe to toe with Gift Of Gab, surely one of the most ferociously gifted MCs on the planet is no mean feat, but one which Vursatyl performs with ease.

The City Pines (PDX)- www.thecitypines.com
The City Pines are a four piece band of multi-instrumentalists blending styles from disparate musical backgrounds. Whether it's the topographical grandeur of the Pacific Northwest or the individual growth each member has undergone upon relocation, the Pines's songwriting has taken on an ambitious new musicality. Lengthy and elaborately arranged songs, Joni's contemplative lyrical themes, and the band's tendency towards a kind of genre fluidity all suggest personal as well as geographic changes in the band's identity.
